Company, Propagate Venture, is Investing in Farmers to Develop Ecosystems as a Spotlight on Nutrient Availability in Produce Continues.
- As the demand for nutrient-dense produce increases, the correlation to resilient farming and sustaining ecosystems is becoming more prevalent. Primarily within the debate of what constitutes regenerative practices and how to go about it.
- Ethan Steinberg, CEO and co-founder of Propagate Ventures, asks these questions but has also ventured some answers. “When we first started thinking about it, if we demand healthy food we should also demand really healthy landscapes and ecosystems, we looked at the bottlenecks in regenerative agriculture and realized that trees are an important pillar in the ecosystem that are not currently being addressed. So we asked: how can farmers and producers have an opportunity to utilize trees as part of the regenerative agriculture toolkit?”
- The New York firm recently invested $1.5 million in seed round, intending to assist farmers with guidance on what to plant and where, sources for contractors, and capital for out of pocket expenses. But the project also offers investors a low-risk method of backing agroforestry projects. The company sees this as an opportunity to provide farmers with new income streams while improving sustainability.
