Position Description

Craiglee Proprietors is a family run poll merino operation based in Manoora, close to Clare in South Australia’s Mid North. The business operates up to 14,000 DSE across several sites including properties in the Eastern Districts Pastoral Zone, Mid North, and Fleurieu Peninsula. We pride ourselves on our strong livestock practices and maintain a culture of continual improvement. The family has an interest in regenerative agriculture and is keen to pursue this.

About the role:

We are looking for a livestock manager to handle most aspects of our poll merino operation. This is a full-time position, with the responsibility of managing and implementing day-to-day activities as well as the opportunity to implement long term objectives. The position is mostly based in Manoora, but some assistance is required by the part-time staff at the away locations and in time you may be directing these staff. There is scope for future career advancement for the right person. The current owners are on hand to help, but would like to ease back in responsibilities over time.

Duties include:

  • All operations to ensure the health and productivity of the animals.
  • Managing feed production, including sowing fodder crops, fertility, feed budgeting, stock rotation and supplementation.
  • Co-ordinating shearing and stock movements between properties.

Essential skills/and or qualifications:

  • Fodder budgeting.
  • Knowledge of pumps, water systems and small motors.
  • Current and valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to ride a motorbike.
  • Ability to drive a tractor and operate other general farm machinery safely.
  • High level of personal fitness.
  • Ability to lift and carry general work-related items up to 30 kg without restrictions.

Desirable skills/and or qualifications:

  • Knowledge of regenerative agriculture, advanced grazing management and soil biology.
  • Tertiary qualification.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Good logistical and time management.

Personal qualities:

  • Self-direction and motivation.
  • Ability to work in isolation, but also able to get along with and direct others.
  • Honesty.
  • Drive.
  • Curiosity.
  • Integrity.

Please note: all our properties and vehicles are smoke free. Some weekend work and travel to/staying at other properties is required.
