About the role:

As an integral member of the executive management team, the CFO will work closely with the CEO and the Board to deliver on the strategic goals and the nation building work of the Institute. This role is hands on and will include all aspects of financial management, planning, budgets, policy development, corporate governance and be a key partner in HR.

Your profile:

This opportunity will suit an experienced finance professional with a strategic mindset who enjoys leading teams, building culture and driving change to improve outcomes. Key competencies identified for the role include:

  • leadership skills and strategic vision to play a key role in delivering the strategic plan
  • cash management, financial accounting, and corporate finance competencies
  • understanding and ensuring compliance with statutory obligations 
  • management and the provision of governance advice to the Board of Directors
  • organisation and running of annual general meetings and annual reporting
  • asset management – property, people and investments
  • people management
  • strong problem-solving abilities, work ethic and reliability. 

Selection criteria:

  • formal tertiary qualifications in business, accounting, and corporate governance 
  • 8 to 10 years minimum experience as a CFO and CS with experience in senior executive roles in a not-for-profit setting
  • experience in designing and improving financial control systems and in writing finance reports for a board of directors
  • strong financial management skills, including budgeting, managing financial risks, record keeping, taxation, compliance, asset management, insurance, contract management and reporting requirements
  • proven experience in the use of finance and corporate governance systems to support strategic goals
  • proven ability to build positive relationships across organisations and with external stakeholders 
  • leadership and management experience in working with, advising and/or supporting staff, Executive teams and Boards
  • demonstrated evidence of collaborative leadership 
  • strong strategic thinking and communication skills (written and oral) and the ability to communicate with audiences at varying levels.
