Position Description

ASAP (Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project) is a nonprofit based in Asheville, North Carolina, serving the Southern Appalachian region. Our mission is to help local farms thrive, link farmers to markets and supporters, and build healthy communities through connections to local food.


About the Role

The Development Director is responsible for managing and implementing all aspects of ASAP’s fund development activities including donor development and maintenance, grant writing coordination, general fundraising, sponsorships, and fundraising events. The Development Director will lead and guide ASAP fundraising and coordinate fundraising activities with appropriate staff that include Program Directors, Communication Coordinator, Events Coordinator, Operations and Finance Management, and grants team.


Duties

  • Oversee the development and execution of a strategic fundraising plan that helps ensure ASAP’s long-term financial sustainability
  • Forecasting annual fundraising goals
  • Solicitation, stewardship, and acknowledgement of donors
  • Design and implementation of strategies to maintain, improve, and evaluate ASAP’s relationships with donors
  • Cultivation and engagement of potential funders and donors
  • Organizing and promoting a cohesive major gifts program
  • Coordinate grants with grant writing team and Program Directors
  • Coordinate fundraising events
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, and, upon invitation, board meetings
  • Maintaining appropriate records and documentation
  • Represent ASAP at public events and in the communities that ASAP serves
  • Seek and engage in appropriate professional development/training Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Proficiency in Google G-Suite platform
  • Ability to follow instructions and work within deadlines
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to be self directed and a team player
  • Experience with database / donor management software; Salesforce.com preferred
  • Excellent organization skills


Required

  • Grant writing and process experience
  • Fundraising experience
  • Proficient with measuring and reaching income goals
  • Excellent knowledge of fundraising information sources
  • Strong people skills
  • Must be able to pass a background check


ASAP is currently a qualifying employer for the Public Student Loan Forgiveness (PSFL) Program.


Compensation

Compensation is commensurate with experience and other qualifications. Benefits include an employer match retirement plan, paid time off, paid sick time, paid holidays, and employee wellness initiatives. Specific benefits are outlined in the employment offer letter. Less than full time employment would also be considered depending on the candidate.
